Swim United Campaign launches at Smethwick Swimming Centre

On Wednesday 1st June, Speedo launched their Swim United Campaign a purpose-led programme with the sole mission of tackling the barriers to swimming faced by many families in the UK, whether these be; cultural, financial or systemic.

The event was be held at Smethwick Swimming Centre, with Speedo athlete and ambassadors Adam Peaty, Ellie Simmonds & Michael Gunning in attendance.

The event consisted of a photoshoot with Speedo athletes and local children followed by athlete interviews and ending with a panel talk, and there was a discussion on understanding the barriers that children from marginalised communities and minority groups face when it comes to learning to swim at primary school.

Speedo commented “1 in 4 children leaves primary school unable to swim 25m. Learning to swim is a life skill and we believe every child should have the same opportunity.”

Sean Ryan, Centre Manager at Smethwick Swimming Centre added “our team were very honoured to hold such a prestigious launch at Smethwick. This campaign will hopefully give even more opportunity to more people to take up swimming & everyone working to break participation down”.

You can watch the interview that was shown live on Channels 4's "Steph's Packed Lunch" here. (You must sign in to watch)

The event was organised and coordinated by Gung Ho Communications Ltd working on behalf of Speedo and Swim United.
