Sandwell Aquatics Centre hosts Aquatics GB Diving Championships
Sandwell Leisure Trust was proud to host the Aquatics GB Diving Championships at Sandwell Aquatics Centre on 23rd-26th May. The event played a key role towards the selection of Great Britain’s diving team, heading to Paris this summer in search of more historic successes on the sport's biggest stages.
The final day of competition at Sandwell began with the Men's 3m and Women's 3m Synchro finals, as Olympic-bound duo Jack Laugher and Anthony Harding continued their push towards their Games final in that event on 2nd August.
Noah Williams triumphed in a tense Men's 10m Platform final to bring the curtain down on the 2024 Speedo Aquatics GB Diving Championships.
This was the first major senior diving event at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre pool since the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Hosting major events at our centres, such as the Aquatics GB Diving Championships, is one way in which the Trust has fulfilled its purpose of making sport more accessible and encouraging participation.
By bringing prestigious events to our local facilities, we not only provide opportunities for the community to witness top-level competition but also inspire individuals of all ages to engage in physical activity.
Our mission is to encourage and increase participation in physical activity, sport, and leisure for the whole community, and these events play a crucial role in achieving that goal by showcasing the excitement and benefits of an active lifestyle.
Nigel Mills, Head Diving Coach at Sandwell Aquatics Centre said:
“Hosting the Speedo Aquatics GB Diving Championship's was an honour and great success for Sandwell. Not only was it great for the venue to host such a high-profile Olympic Trials event and the biggest Diving event in the country but it was fantastic to bring it to Sandwell residents and members that use the facilities.
The event showcases the success of the venue since opening its doors, and shows the current divers and potential new members, that diving to the highest level is possible in the area and future Olympians can be made in Sandwell with the facilities and programme that we are operating. This is an exciting new project and start of a great journey to making the sport inclusive and accessible to everyone from Sandwell.”
