New Family Water Safety Session at Smethwick Swimming Centre

A new Family Water Safety session is taking place this summer at Smethwick Swimming Centre.
Families can learn how to be safe whilst in and around water; whether in a pool, beach, lake or river.
The one hour session will give the fundamental skills, knowledge and confidence to know what to do if you or someone else gets into difficulty in the water.
It will include:
- Understanding how to safely assess and deal with a person who is in difficulty in the water
- Know how to contact the emergency services and information you need to provide
- Learn how to help someone, whilst keeping yourself safe including using equipment and everyday objects to assist you
- Safe entries and exits in the water
- Signalling for help whilst in the water
- Treading water and keeping afloat
- Heat escape lessening posture
- Understanding the different beach flags and what they mean
Emma Griffin, Activity Coordinator at Smethwick Swimming Centre said, 'we are really looking forward to delivering these sessions. Being in around water is great fun, but is it is important that everyone knows how to keep safe and what to do if they or someone gets into difficulty'

Sessions will take place 12.00pm - 1.00pm on:
4th August | 18th August | 1st September
Places are limited to 12 per session and cost £3.50 per person.
Minimum age 6
Everyone who attends will receive a certificate of attendance and a an activity booklet to take home which will include:
- How to be water safe
- How to be pool safe
- How to be surf safe
- How to be sun safe
- How to be environmentally safe
