Meet The Member - Alysha

During a recent photoshoot at Portway Lifestyle Centre, our team had the pleasure of meeting with Portway member Alysha, who shared with us her fitness journey.

Can you confirm your full name, occupation, the town you live in?

My name is Alysha Latham and I’m a Sales Executive from Gornal.

Tell us about your fitness journey?

I've been a member on and off since Portway was opened, so around 8 years.

I had a health scare in 2021 and I had to change my lifestyle, so I started a diet and came to the gym. I lost 3 stone and couldn't have done it around better people than those here at Portway.

I continue to attend Portway because fitness is not just a new year’s resolution for me, it's a lifestyle.

Which SLT centres do you use and why?

I use Portway, Haden Hill and Tipton Leisure Centre. I use these different centres as they fit around my work schedule, and I love the different types of classes each centre has to offer.

What are your favourite classes and why?

I love Combat, it’s my favourite class as I love the atmosphere and the instructors don't take it too seriously.

Grit and Sprint are also some great glasses as they are only 30 minutes so I can fit them in and around a busy working schedule and still burn plenty of calories.

BLT has been one of my all-time favourite classes, as the instructor Tash always knows how to push me and it's a great atmosphere.

Do you have a favourite instructor?

None in particular, but Tash has known me many years and always knows when I'm about to give up. Charlie is also very inspiring, and she made me fall in love with Body Combat.

How does SLT meet your needs?

Its classes are so versatile, and the members and staff are just like a big family and are always very welcoming to new members.

What motivates you to keep going on those days when it’s harder to leave the house?

The people. I have friends at SLT that are always catching up with each other and we all sure we are turning up to classes.

Favourite pre-workout snack or meal?

I don't have pre-workout, I'd be sick.

Do you use and fitness apps to monitor your fitness efforts?

I have a Fitbit which monitors my heart rate and calorie burn, and I always use MyZone which I kindly won from an SLT competition!

What advice would you offer to someone who is thinking of becoming a ONE Card member?

Don't think twice! It is one of the best decisions I have ever made. It helps with my mental health perhaps even more so than my physical health. It's my therapy and so are the people.

What could SLT do better to help you?

A sauna at Portway would be great!
