Aquathlon Accreditation for Tipton...
The prestigious award, presented by British Triathlon, was given to the Tipton Aquathon which has now become an annual event. The event met the required criteria that it should be suitable for novices and should achieve a high standard of safety and equality.
The Tipton Aquathon is one of only two events within the West Midlands, and one of 30 nationally, to get through the strict criteria to have gained this National award.
There has been a lot of support for the event along with the accreditation from Rosa Teagle from the West Midlands Triathlon Committee.
The event in 2011 was held on March 6th, which saw over 80 participants register. The event is a partnership event between Triathlon England, Sandwell Leisure Trust and Oldbury Swimming and Triathlon Club. Plans are already underway for the 2012 event, and there are currently weekly training sessions at Tipton Swimming Centre every Wednesday from 9.00pm until 10.00pm delivered by Oldbury Swimming and Triathlon Club.
Stefan Pearce, Regional Programme Manager for the West Midlands said: "This is a well earned reward for an excellent project run jointly by Triathlon England, Sandwell Leisure Trust and Oldbury Swimming and Triathlon Club, it’s brilliant. This winter we will be offering novice triathlon training again specifically for the 2012 event."
Lisa Rashid, Physical Activity Development Officer for Sandwell Leisure Trust said: "It is great that we have achieved this national award, and all the hard work for the event has now been worth it, next year’s event should be even better. The triathlon training is a great way to combine different sports in keeping physically active."
