Aegon GB Pro-Series at Tipton
International tennis talent took to the court at Tipton Sports Academy this February for the Aegon GB Pro-Series. 23-year-old Oscar Otte captured a career sixth ITF Pro Circuit singles title in the Aegon GB Pro-Series Tipton final defeating Frenchman David Guez.
Oscar Otte (GER) and David Guez (FRA) played in front of a healthy crowd at Tipton Sports Academy. The 6ft 5ins German Otte, who had reached the final without the loss of a set, soon got his big serve in full flow against his sixth seeded opponent, Guez. The crowd were lucky enough to witness some very high quality tennis from two players who have accumulated 28 singles and 20 doubles titles on the ITF Pro Circuit between them.
Otte captured the first set 75 before racing into a 5-2 lead in the second set and serving for a first hard court singles title. Guez, who once ranked as high as 116 in 2010 was not ready to give up on his own title aspirations and broke the German’s serve.
Having just been broken, Otte struck back immediately and with a huge backhand down the line on his second match point he sealed a 75 63 victory.
This title added to his triumph the previous day in the doubles final where he had partnered his compatriot Jannis Kahlke to a three set win over the Italian pairing of Andrea Pellegrino and Andrea Vavassori with the German duo coming from behind to take the title in a match tiebreak [10-5].
"It been a great week for me here in Tipton [winning the singles & doubles titles]” Otte commented, "I have really enjoyed playing here, and everything has been really good with the tournament and organisation"
Turning his attention to his next tournament and beyond, Otte added: "My goal for the year is to start to test myself at the next level, with ATP Challengers, and really push on with my ranking."
