Portway Lifestyle Centre,
Portway Lifestyle Centre is an exciting new leisure facility for Sandwell, a vibrant and unique sports, health and wellbeing centre for the whole community and centre of excellence for people with disabilities. The sport and leisure facilities at Portway Lifestyle Centre are managed by charitable organisation Sandwell Leisure Trust which also runs seven other leisure centres and a golf course on behalf of Sandwell Council.

Our gym staff and Sandwell Council's Adults Services staff will be glad to help you during your visit.
The centre provides a wide range of activities for people with and without disabilities, in a state of-the-art building. Anyone can use the leisure facilities to improve their health and wellbeing. Our staff team have completed disability awareness training in order to provide the best customer service to all users visiting the centre.
Portway Lifestyle Centre has recently completed an IFI mark assessment, and have been awarded the top level of "Excellent” in recognition of the Centre’s outstanding commitment to increasing participation amongst disabled people.
The Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) aims to increase choice and opportunities for disabled people to enjoy the benefits of physical activity in inclusive and accessible environments.
Portway Lifestyle Centre is one of only five facilities across the country to have been awarded the Excellent level. The gym is equipped with a range of IFI accredited fitness equipment with highly trained gym staff who are experts in providing advice on adapted physical activity.
As an IFI Accredited facility, Portway Lifestyle Centre will provide a fully inclusive customer journey for all users, from arriving at the facility, through to accessible changing rooms, training advice and adapted gym equipment choice.

Our staff are there to support all users of this facility, please let us know if you need help.
The centre has been specifically designed to help and support users with disabilities and includes the following facilities;
Disabled parking and drop off points are located near to the main entrance.
Easy access ramp and walkways with tactile paving and handrails.
A tactile map of the building is located in reception.
Colour contrast and braille signs for all key areas of building.
Power assisted doors are located throughout the building.
Disabled toilets and changing areas, the centre is also a Changing Places facility.
The centre has a hearing induction loop.
A Wayfinding audible navigation tool is in place to support visually impaired users.
Hoist facilities are available in changing areas and for access to the hydrotherapy pool.
Guide dogs are also welcome.
A virtual signing service on a tablet device is also at the centre. This service is subject to availability.

Sandwell Council, in partnership with Sandwell Leisure Trust, Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and NHS, Sandwell Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) and Sport England are together delivering this new health, well being, sport and leisure facility. Sandwell LIFT is a public private partnership set up to modernise health, social care and community premises across Sandwell.
Portway Service Users Group
We are looking for enthusiastic, forward thinking individuals, with an interest in disabled sport and physical provisions, to join our Service User group.
We would like to capture your practical experiences of using the centre in order to improve the service we provide.
