Progression Through Swim Academy
Goldfish, Angelfish and Shark series
The Goldfish, Angelfish and Shark series provide learners with the opportunity to continue their aquatic journey through these 9 awards progressing from the STAnley or Octopus series. Upon the completion of the shark series learners will be able to demonstrate the ability to:
- Demonstrate a range of survival and rescue skills
- Perform six strokes
- Swim 100 metres
- Perform competitive dives and turns.
On completion of the above series learners have 2 pathways to continue their aquatic journey if they wish.
Advanced Swimmer – Bronze, Silver and Gold
This series includes three challenging levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold), which are designed to refine swimming techniques, develop swimming speed and increase stamina. Synchronised swimming and water polo is introduced to the learner throughout this series to create a multi-skilled swimmer.
Platinum Award - Final award of the advanced swimmer.
This award is the ultimate swimming and water safety award; challenging the learners swimming and survival skills, whilst continuing to develop synchronised swimming and water polo skills introduced in the advanced swimmer series.
The other option is the Junior Lifeguard programme. For further information on this please click here.
In addition to our Swim Academy we also incorporate Distance Awards within the scheme. The distance series allows learners to develop their stamina through continuously swimming distances ranging from 5 metres up to 5,000 metres. Distances from 25 metres and above must be swum using recognised strokes and part of the distance should be covered in deep water wherever possible.
We have also incorporated the Kingfisher Awards which run alongside our Goldfish, Angelfish and Shark series. The Kingfisher Awards progressively develop diving skills and are used to complement learner’s development.
If your child can swim but you're not sure what level they are at, why not book one of our free swimming assessments? Our qualified instructors will be able to let you know the correct level for your child
*Please note that Wednesbury Leisure Centre are not currently taking on any new enrolments.
