Smethwick club serves up new badminton sessions

Date added: 27 January 2012

A Smethwick based badminton club has been awarded £5000 from Sport England to set up community sessions...

The funding, awarded by Sport England’s small grants scheme, has allowed the club to launch new sessions to encourage budding badminton players to improve their skills whilst staying physically active.

The public are invited to play every Thursday evening from 6pm-7pm at Holly Lodge 11-19 Science College in Smethwick.

A new session has also been launched for sixth form pupils at the Holly Lane based school.

The funding has also helped launch a new session for people with disabilities at Hadley Stadium in Smethwick from 5pm-6pm every Tuesday.

Holly Lodge Mills Badminton Club coach, Linford Golding, said: “This is a brilliant opportunity to promote health and fitness in a fun way at your own pace in a very friendly environment, come and join us.”

Lisa Rashid from Sandwell Leisure Trust said: “This funding will give people who have not tried badminton before, or those who have an experience of playing badminton, the opportunity to take up this great sport.

Sandwell Leisure Trust’s Sports Development and Physical Activity Team provided assistance with the funding application and are actively involved in the project.

For more information on the sessions please contact Lisa Rashid on 0121 506 4980 or download an information flyer.
