Harry Mitchell Highly Commended in Quality Award…

Date added: 04 March 2011

Staff at Harry Mitchell Leisure Centre located in Smethwick are delighted after being awarded 'highly commended' status in a recent quality inspection.

Quest defines industry standards, good practice and encourages the ongoing development and delivery of customer service. The award also takes into account cleanliness and management, as well as scoring on the quality and improvements made to the centre.

Steve Bartley, Assistant Operations Manager for Sandwell Leisure Trust said;

'All the team are delighted that we have achieved highly commended status and reflects that we are committed to continuous improvement at the centre.'

'This is the centres 3rd Quest assessment over the last 6 years resulting in an improved score at each assessment due to the hard work of all the staff.'

'The Quest assessor made particular reference to how the centre succeeds in meeting the needs of it's customers in a building that is now well over one hundred years old.'

'He also said, I very often see facilities using the age of the building as an excuse for poor performance but Harry Mitchell actually takes great pride in the history of the building and has utilised and adapted the facility for the benefit of it's customers.'

The main Drill Hall was built and donated by Henry Mitchell to the Smethwick Corporation and the Staffordshire Volunteer Reserves in 1898, in memory of his son Harry Mitchell.

The facility located on Broomfield, Smethwick provides host to a variety of sports and clubs as well as providing fitness classes, weight training and a ladies only gym.
